Joshua D. Cooper is a proud Oklahoman whose deep roots in the state shape both his personal values and the focused, compassionate approach he brings to each of his cases. He represents families and individuals throughout northern Oklahoma in domestic relations, adoption, guardianship, juvenile deprived, and criminal defense matters. Clients describe him as a steady presence during the hardest stretch of a case. Whether the matter is a contested custody case, a criminal charge, or an adoption, Joshua takes time to understand the full picture before advocating for a client’s interests.
Born in Tahlequah and raised in Bixby, he earned his B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Economics from Oklahoma State University and his J.D. from Oklahoma City University School of Law. He is a member of the Oklahoma Bar and is admitted to practice in tribal courts across the state.
An enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation, Joshua brings substantial tribal and Indian Child Welfare Act experience to his practice. Before entering private practice, he served as an Indian Child Welfare Specialist and expert witness for the Cherokee Nation, testifying on the tribe’s behalf in state district courts in Oklahoma and numerous other states. His earlier training also includes internships and clerkships at Oklahoma Indian Legal Services, Oklahoma Legal Services, Bison Law Firm, and the Oklahoma County Public Defender’s Juvenile Division, where he completed more than 350 pro bono hours. He has been recognized by the National Association of Family Law Attorneys as one of its Top 10 Under 40 for 2026.
